Code modification is to allow fire sprinklers for a substitution of one-hour fire rated construction. The current building is of Type V-A construction with no fire sprinklers other then in the corridors. The applicant would like to remove the one-hour fire-rated ceiling of an existing suite and install fire sprinklers throughout the suite as a substitution for the one-hour fire-rated construction. The fire partition at the corridor will be extended to the floor deck above using a one-hour fire-rated shaft wall assembly. The perimeter and all penetrations will be fire chaulked. In addition, fire sprinkler up heads will be added above the corridor along the length of the corridor that is adjacent to the existing suite. The construction of the shaft wall and the fire chaulking shall be done under Special Inspections.
